Buy-Sell Agreements: Why Every Estate Planning Professional Should Pay Attention

Buy-Sell Agreements are a critical but often overlooked element of comprehensive estate and succession planning—especially for clients who own closely held businesses. While these agreements are legal documents, their implications extend far beyond the legal field. Financial advisors, accountants, insurance professionals, and trust officers all play a vital role in helping clients prepare for and navigate triggering events such as death, disability, divorce, or retirement.

This session will demystify Buy-Sell Agreements, focusing on how they function, common pitfalls, and why proactive coordination across disciplines is essential. Attendees will come away with a clearer understanding of how these agreements impact business continuity, valuations, liquidity, and the success of the overall estate plan—empowering them to better support their clients and collaborate effectively with legal counsel.
